Cream of the crop - Women Of The Future Awards Southeast Asia

This is the list of Malaysian women shortlisted for the Women of the Future (Southeast Asia) Award. The award programme which recognises outstanding women in different fields has been held in Britain for 12 years and is being held in Southeast Asia for the first time.

Hannan Azlan, Comedian, Singer, Actor, Writer (Arts & Culture Category)

In her first year of performing stand-up comedy, Hannan Azlan became the youngest person to win the Hong Kong International Comedy Competition. Hannan has toured Asia, Australia, Europe and Great Britain, and has featured at the Melbourne International Comedy Competition, Edinburgh Fringe, on MTV Asia and Comedy Central Asia.

Noor Neelofa Mohd Noor, Founder & Managing Director, NH Prima International Sdn Bhd (Arts & Culture Category)

Neelofa is a successful actress, host and entrepreneur. She has starred in TV shows, films and produced her own reality TV series. She started her business empire with Lofa Shoes, and then moved to BellaVita in 2012 before setting up Naelofar Hijab (NH Prima International Sdn Bhd) in 2014. She has been listed in the Forbes Asia Under 30 List.

Lee Yen Nee, Correspondent, CNBC International (Media & Communications Category)

Lee Yen Nee is a correspondent for CNBC digital based in Singapore, covering a range of business topics from around the region, including banking and macroeconomics. She plays a critical role informing a diverse, global audience about developments in technology, geopolitics and more. She previously worked  at Thomson Reuters and Singapore's daily newspaper TODAY.

Juanita Ramayah, Presenter hitz FM Malaysia, Astro Radio (Media & Communications Category)

Juanita is a host on Malaysia’s number one English radio station, hitz FM. In just five years she has gone from station voice-over to establishing herself as a core and popular member of the hitz FM team. She’s also a TV host for the Astro GOASEAN channel and widely respected for the way in which she mentors young women aspiring to join both the radio and TV industry. Juanita has recently launched a music career with Duo Dua.

Gladys Chun, General Counsel, Lazada (subsidiary of Alibaba) (Professions Category) As the General Counsel of Lazada Group, a subsidiary of Alibaba, Gladys leads the Legal and Compliance department with responsibility across all countries where Lazada has a local presence. She led the team in the historic USD1billion acquisition by Alibaba of majority shareholding in Lazada and is a trailblazer in eCommerce, sitting at the convergence of technology and the increasing complexity of laws in a multijurisdictional and fast-paced environment.

Kamila Hamid, Material and Corrosion Engineer, Wood PLC (Professions Category) Kamila has five years of experience as a Materials and Corrosion Engineer in the oil and gas industry. She’s currently at Wood PLC with prior roles at Synergy Asset Integrity Management and Bureau Veritas. She’s actively involved with professional bodies including the Institute of Engineers Malaysia, and helps organise conferences, gives seminars and talks. She is an inspiration to young engineering students. In 2016 she was selected to be an ambassador for Malaysia as a Young Women Scientist.

Dr. Ir. Jeyanthi Ramasamy, Technical Solutions Manager, Oceaneering and Independent Director, Rohas Tecnic Berhad (Professions Category)

As the Technical Solutions Manager at Oceaneering, Jeyanthi is instrumental in increasing market share by helping clients in the Asia Pacific to optimise the design of subsea project developments. Jeyanthi was Lead Subsea for the Gumusut-Kakap deepwater gas field development. She’s on the board of Rohas Tecnic Berhad and is the youngest female board member of a Malaysian public listed company.

Dr. Nur Adlyka Ainul Annuar, Lecturer in Physics, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (Science & Technology Category)

Adlyka completed her Astrophysics PhD at Durham University and went on to lead an international team of astronomers to discover a hidden supermassive black hole in a nearby galaxy. This major discovery has helped further our understanding of how black holes evolve with their host galaxies, including the one in our own galaxy. Adlyka is now an astrophysicist and lecturer at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Chern Ein Oon, Senior Lecturer, Universiti Sains Malaysia (Science & Technology Category) Chern has received numerous awards for her work on novel molecular therapeutics in cancer, including the Exiqon Young Scientist Award, South East Asia 2014; L'Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science 2015 and the MAKNA Cancer Research Award. Her expertise and research will likely influence more effective strategies in anti-cancer drug development.

Louisa Ponnampalam, Chairperson and Co-Founder, The MareCet Research Organisation (Science & Technology Category)

Louisa has led MareCet since its inception in 2012 to grow it from a local non-profit to a leading environmental organization focused on marine mammal research and conservation of the marine environment. Her scientific talents have seen her receive many accolades including the Pew Marine Fellowship Award. She has also been invited to serve in the IUCN Cetacean Specialist Group. Louisa is a Malaysian TN50 Ambassador.

Nadia Rajaram, Research Associate, Cancer Research Malaysia (Science & Technology Category)

As an epidemiologist, Nadia’s passion for women's health has remained constant. She is involved in both advocacy and in the scientific pursuit for solutions for women's health. Currently, she is a Research Associate at Cancer Research Malaysia, dedicated to finding effective ways to reduce breast cancer in Malaysia and Asia.

Yuet Kim Lim, CEO and Co-Founder, The Picha Project (Social Entrepreneur Category) Talented musician and composer, Kim Lim, is the Co-founder and CEO of The Picha Project, a successful social enterprise which operates a food delivery and catering service and empowers refugees in Malaysia to earn a sustainable income from cooking food. The company currently serves more than 40,000 meals and generates revenue of nearly a million Malaysian Ringgits, half of which goes to the families who cook to sustain their lives in Malaysia.
